Summer is here! The season of summer heat, vacations, and for many children around the world, diarrhea. According to the United Nation’s Children’s Fund (UNICEF), around the world, diarrhea is the leading killer of young children. Children in poor communities are exposed to conditions that cause diarrhea, conditions like poor hygiene/sanitation and low water supply. Once children have diarrhea, they end up developing even more serious illnesses like undernutrition, dehydration, and other illnesses which without adequate water supply, cannot be treated. It becomes a vicious cycle that leads to death. Children don’t have enough water to stay clean & drink which causes diarrhea and other illnesses and without proper water supply to keep sick children hydrated & hygienic, they become too sick and die.
Furthermore, according to UNICEF:
That is why Mercy Without Limits has made the commitment to build water wells in the poorest of communities around the world. From Cox Bazar refugee camp for the Rohingya people to poor communities in Sierra Leone. We believe water is the basis of life. So, do you! In the past month alone May – June, 2019 you helped build 80 such wells providing life-sustaining water for poor communities around the world. Together we can build even more deep water wells and tube wells which provide hundreds of gallons of fresh, clean water for years to come. No child needs to die from diarrhea because there is no water to drink and stay clean. Let’s beat this summer heat and save lives, one water pump at a time!
